White Ink Printing

We got into the printing business because of a fascination with the letterpress process. The vintage presses, ink mixed by hand, centuries old methods passed down from one printer to the next – it has always been a love affair with the methods of old combined with new and interesting designs.

Some designs, however, call for modern solutions.

White ink printing is one of the most popular current trends in luxury stationery. This poses a challenge to the letterpress printer, as letterpress inks are opaque. While inks that are darker than the paper they are printed on show up beautifully, lighter inks on darker papers can often look washed out because of the opacity of the ink on the soft, uncoated papers we use.

White foil stamping can sometimes be a solution for the designer or client who still wants that tactile impression in the paper. However, foil stamping is a little tricky for small, fine text often used in wedding invitations and other event stationery.

The latest addition to our collection of machinery are a set of modern printers that are capable of printing white ink on textured papers and envelopes. White ink pops against colored papers and the digital printing process allows for variable addressing on envelopes, along with variable names on name cards, menus, or any other wedding stationery.

Keaykolour, Colorplan, or Gmund papers are great options for white ink printing because each line comes in a variety of vibrant and beautiful colors. You can view some of the many paper colors here
