Yay! You’re engaged and this is such an exciting time. Planning your wedding is a huge deal and there are so many details to consider. However, once you settle on a venue and a date, the next step is letting your friends and family know that your big day is coming up! A save the date serves as an important part of your wedding stationery, giving friends and family a heads up to put your date on their calendar and begin making travel arrangements to attend. 

A save the date also lets your guests know that a formal invitation will be sent out later, so the wording on a save the date can be short and to the point. Even if you don’t have all the specifics of your event nailed down, you can still send out a save the date. The important information to be conveyed is both of your names, the date of your wedding and the location. Any other information you include, like a wedding website or the name of your venue, isn’t necessary but ultimately, it’s up to you (or your stationery designer!) on what to include. 

 The tone of your wording on the save the date is almost as important as the information you’re including! This is an exciting, celebratory time, so you can get creative with how you announce your upcoming wedding. If you’re the kind of couple that is always cracking jokes and known for your sense of humor, consider including a witty or funny saying. If you’re more serious or traditional, or if your event is going to be formal, your save the date wording could be more classic. It’s important to note that save the dates do tend to be less traditional than the wedding invitation itself. Either way, this is a great time to let your wedding stationery set an initial tone for the wedding.
